Description

(uniquement en français)

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Fugue in G minor, BWV 578, often referred to as the “Little” G minor Fugue, is one of his most recognized organ works. Composed during his early years in Arnstadt or Mühlhausen, this fugue exemplifies Bach’s mastery of counterpoint, with its flowing subject and tightly woven polyphonic textures. Despite its relatively short duration, it encapsulates the depth and complexity that define Bach’s musical language.

In this arrangement for saxophone quartet by Gianluca D’Elia, the fugue’s intricate lines and interwoven voices are beautifully adapted to the warm, expressive timbres of the saxophone family. The saxophone quartet—an ensemble that combines both the richness of a choir and the agility of a chamber group—proves to be a compelling medium for Bach’s counterpoint, bringing a new dimension of color and phrasing to this timeless piece.

This edition is part of HDSB Music Publishing’s commitment to expanding the classical repertoire for modern ensembles while preserving the integrity and brilliance of the original works. We hope this arrangement will inspire saxophonists to explore Bach’s genius through a fresh and dynamic interpretation.
