Composed during his early years in Arnstadt or Mühlhausen, this fugue exemplifies Bach’s mastery of counterpoint, with its flowing subject and tightly woven polyphonic textures. Despite its relatively short duration, it encapsulates the depth and complexity that define Bach’s musical language.

In this arrangement for saxophone quartet by Gianluca D’Elia, the fugue’s intricate lines and interwoven voices are beautifully adapted to the warm, expressive timbres of the saxophone family.
